What to do if exercise isn’t really your thing?

What if we made it more simple?

Exercise is a loaded word, anyway. That’s why I prefer to use the word movement. Humans didn’t start to “exercise” until maybe the 19th century. Many languages don’t even have a word for exercise.

My philosophy is all one really has to do to begin being more fit and feel better is to move a little more than you do already.

7 Minute Workout?

Dr. Oz has research showing that 7 minutes of resistance type exercise a day is enough to help improve strength and well being. This should be a combination of upper body, lower body and core exercises.

But is seven minutes enough to get in a great workout?

When it comes to working out, doing something—no matter how short—is always better than nothing.

While the 7-Minute Workout made its debut back in 2013 as part of the start of the whole high-intensity interval training (HIIT) craze, it’s back in a big way thanks to the app becoming compatible with the Apple Watch.

So, why not give it a try!

My recommendation for 7 Minute Workout

If you’re new to regular resistance exercise, I recommend you focus on simply doing the exercises with low to moderate resistance. No need to go for high intensity or make it even a big deal. You can do these exercises in your pajamas and bare feet. No need for special clothes or shoes. Just pick a time in your morning routine and begin.

And if you don’t make it 7 minutes, it’s still more than you’ve done before and it’s a start!

Here’s an quick set of exercises that you can do at home with no equipment*:

  • Wall sit for 1 minute
  • Plank (push up position)
  • Side plank
  • Bridge position
  • Wall angel – hold
  • Traveling mini lunges – don’t bend knees too much
  • Wall push-ups

Also, going for a simple walk every day is a great way to support your overall health. Between a walk and resistance exercises, you’ll be on your way to much greater well-being now and avoidance of chronic health conditions in the future.
